The Spices

Group Overview

The Spices refers to a group of kittens rescued from the Alley colony, four of which were birthed and two adopted by their mother, Saffron.

The Spices were originally discovered in The Restaurant Subcolony in a bush, and originally consisted of four kittens. Apoinsettia and Cobalt went out to take the kittens and trap Saffron, which led to a trapping session that lasted over three hours. The trapping was so complex that Saffron decided to take one of the two tabby kittens and ran off, to where she was tracked again. The trap eventually was a success leading to Saffron and her kittens being taken back.

The four original kittens would be known as Miso, Riot, Tilted Towers, and Lrrr, Ruler of Planet Omnicron Persei 8. Not long after, these kittens would open their eyes just days later, a new set of kittens was discovered in a front yard of one of Apo’s friend’s family member. The kittens that this other mother had were four white and orange cats of some color pattern, and a single white and black kitten. Eventually, this person who let Apo know about the kittens reported that the mother had abandoned three of the kittens, with the family member discovering them. Apo and Cobalt drove out to retrieve the kittens, not knowing which they would receive.

When they arrived, it was revealed that the family member took them in when the white and black kitten was discovered to be dead, proving that the mother was unlikely to return. The remaining two kittens would be known later, when named by Twitch Chat, as Pixie and Four Cheese Pizza: Mozzarella, Ricotta, Brie and Parmesan. These kittens would be taken back to Saffron, who accepted them both reluctantly.

After the kittens had gone through several phases, such as their eyes opening and walking, the kitten Riot would pass from a fading episode. This would lead to an era of skepticism with the kittens health, as Apo made a promise to make sure the remaining five kittens would find loving homes and make it out. Being the first ever rescue on the channel to pass on, it was a difficult period. Pixie would later suffer a similar fading episode, more than likely being the runt of his litter, but was able to pull through thanks to Apo caring for them during the drive over to the county shelter they enlisted the cats. It was there that Apo promised that if Pixie pulled through, he would keep the kitten, to which Pixie became healthier.

With the kittens now being able to be adopted, the era of The Spices seemed over. Miso and Tilted Towers would both be adopted through the county shelter, and Lrrr would find a private home to a loving couple that keep in contact, and would be properly renamed. Four Cheese would also find a brief home, but would eventually be returned due to the dog the owner had becoming depressed with the introduction of a kitten.

When Four Cheese would be returned to Apo and Cobalt, he was much more lethargic and skinnier. He was incredibly cold, sitting on Apo’s Xbox to retain heat. Four Cheese would be known as the most energetic and chaotic of the kittens, and despite being farther behind than the kittens he grew with, he would become much larger and spastic than them. For him to return showing such concerning signs was wrong, and would later be hospitalized in an animal care ICU Apo worked with. There, through blood work, it was revealed that Four Cheese had a white blood cell count of 0, further leading to his care. He would later be discharged after having a temperature of 104 degrees, seemingly recovered, only for days later to collapse and show signs of being neurologic, not able to walk straight and having his head shake violently.

This would lead to him being hospitalized again, for the final time thankfully. During his stay, they ran an infectious disease panel to reveal he had no diseases whatsoever, and the causes of him being hospitalized twice were never known. Although it is assumed to be something with the previous owner, Apo also assumed Four Cheese may have gotten into something he wasn’t supposed to due to his chaotic personality. Four Cheese would recover, but not fully, as he would have a minor neurological condition that would leave his head shaking slightly. Although this seemed to fade away and was considered to be a minor case of hypoplasia, Four Cheese still suffers from his head shakes.

It was then decided that Four Cheese be kept with his brother Pixie and with Apoinsettia, where they can both receive proper care and attention, in a fitting fashion for the brothers that were left behind by their mother.

All kittens since have been rescued and found homes, with Saffron being returned to her subcolony for being a violent and aggressive cat indoors, considered the most aggressive cat Apoinsettia ever worked with. Although Apo still visits her, she does not seem to have fond memories of him and hisses at him often.
